Nativity / Clay Figurines

Juan Sandoval (a.k.a. Joshua Abraham)'s clay sculptures evoke warmth, humor and childlike innocence. The origin of Juan's figurative clay pottery is from a long time-honored Southwest tradition that began in prehistoric times. Juan's work is steeped in this irreverent, elegant, playful handling of the form. They make you smile. Now days, that means a lot to people. First, they are humble, not trying to breech some echelon of "high art" refined sensibility that Juan has honed sculpting clay for more than 40 years. Secondly, they are authentically handmade in a world of mass production, and this careful work formulates to the varied and unique quality that makes each of them a labor of love. This is one of Juan's many signatures that Galleries worldwide know, love and come back seeking more. Featured in magazines; New Mexico Magazine, Southwest profile, PM Magazine, McCall's Christmas Special, Santa Fe Circle Magazine, Taos Magazine, Cowboys and Indians Magazine. His art collections can be found in over a dozen Galleries and in private collections from the Netherlands, Canada, Japan, Germany and the United States. Represented in book "Storytellers and Other Figurative Potteries" which lists the top one-hundred fifty-four folk artists in the United States.
